Summer Music Series: Wintersleep

Welcome to day thirty of the Summer Music Series! (Holy crap, we’ve reached thirty days!!) The other day I was listening to my Ben Howard station on Pandora as I was getting ready for work when a song caught my attention. The lyrics combined with the beats had me stopped, halfway through putting on my makeup, with my eyes closed breathing it in. Before the song was over, I quickly snapped a screenshot of my phone, fully prepared to investigate after I got home.

Before I go into much detail about today’s musician, Wintersleep, I want you to listen to this beautiful song that captured me so.

Go ahead, you can replay it. I’ll wait. =)

Wintersleep is a Canadian indie rock band from Halifax, Nova Scotia. It started as a side project and turned into something quite amazing. They came together in 2001 and is the band includes Loel Campbell, Paul Murphy, Tim D’eon, Mike Bigelow, and Jon Samuel. I was happy to see that they have released a new album, Hello Hum, in January. Similar artists include Said the Whale, Matt Mays & El Torpedo, and a tiny bit of Mother Mother.

Check out some songs I like off their new album (or just go back to the one above – whatevs! =) )

Hope you enjoyed today’s Summer Music Series musician. See you tomorrow for day thirty-one!

Summer Music Series: Ben Howard

Welcome to day six of the Summer Music Series! Today’s musician, Ben Howard, pulls a little on my heart strings. This is the artist I put on when it’s raining, when I need to think, or when I need to just close my eyes and breathe deep. I absolutely love this man and I hope that after today’s post you fall in love too.

He is a singer/songwriter from Europe, and his latest album, Every Kingdom, was released last October. I would compare his music to James Vincent McMorrow, Ed Sheeran, and Benjamin Francis Leftwich.

In this next song, I absolutely love these lyrics:

“I’m walkin’ back down this mountain
With the strength of a turnin’ tide
Oh the wind’s so soft on my skin,
The sun so hard upon my side.
Oh lookin’ out at this happiness,
I search for between the sheets.
Oh feelin’ blind and realize,
All I was searchin’ for was me.
Ooh all I was searchin’ for was me.”

If you’re really liking the above, be sure to check out his session on the NPR World Cafe. It’s absolutely wonderful.

Hope you enjoyed today’s Summer Music Series musician. See you tomorrow for day seven!
