Summer Music Series: Marina and the Diamonds

Welcome to day twelve of the Summer Music Series! Originally introduced by my good friend, Donnie (and his awesome monthly music mix), Marina and the Diamonds, is a musician I have become very fond of over the past year. The name makes it sounds as though there is more than just one person in this shindig, but really, she is just Marina and we are her diamonds. (No, really, we are. “Diamonds” is a reference to her fans.)

She is a Greek-Welsh singer and has been on the music scene since 2009. Her lyrics are strong, catchy, and quite frankly, make you want to dance. I would say that she is a mix of Oh Land, Florence + the Machine, Regina Spektor, and Kate Nash. Her original album, The Family Jewels, was nothing short of amazing and her next album, Electra Heart, is to be released to the U.S. in early July. Cannot wait!
